What I do
Usually several of these in one project.
-
AI avatars
Conversational characters for visitor centres, hotels and museums: a guide who answers questions in several languages, any time of day. Concept, character, voice and hardware, plus the data-protection work that comes with it.
-
Interactive exhibits
Stations that respond to visitors through sensors, cameras or touch. Physical computing, local AI and user journeys that still hold up when a school class arrives.
-
VR and AR
Augmented reality for heritage sites and city walks, virtual reality for exhibitions and events. Built in Unity or Unreal, tested on real people.
-
Concept and project lead
The person between technology, design, content, didactics and whoever signs off. Feasibility, vendor selection, budget and a plan that actually gets built.
-
Teaching and workshops
Lecturer for Mixed Reality at FH Salzburg. Workshops on AI, simulation and immersive media for teams, schools and institutions.
Applied ML
Machine learning where it meets people, sensors and rooms.
-
Computer vision
Pose, gesture and facial expression from ordinary cameras, built to cope with crowds, changing light and the visitor who does something unexpected.
- Pose estimation
- gesture recognition
- expression analysis
-
Biosignals
EEG, EMG and other physiological sensors in interactive settings: quick fitting, signal-quality checks, artefact handling and features that work in real time.
- EEG
- EMG
- real-time signal processing
-
Language and speech
Conversational characters that listen and answer, grounded in curated knowledge rather than guesswork, with latency and data protection solved for public spaces.
- LLMs
- speech recognition
- speech synthesis
- retrieval
-
Local inference
Models that run on site instead of in the cloud: faster responses, no visitor data leaving the building, and hardware sized to the task.
- Edge devices
- on-device models
- privacy by design
-
Reinforcement learning
Agents that learn behaviour in physics-based simulations, from game characters to interactive systems. Also taught at FH Salzburg.
- Unity ML-Agents
- reward design
- physics simulation
How I work
Less engineering theatre, more things that run.
-
Start in the room
Who walks in, what they should feel and take home, what the space allows. Before any technology.
-
Prototype early
A first working version within weeks, tried on real visitors before anything gets polished.
-
Build to last
Hardware and software your own team can run, update and fix, with documentation that doesn't need me.
About
I studied theoretical physics, then spent years developing VR and AR applications in Unity and Unreal, among others at T-Systems. From there I moved into technical project leadership for immersive media, interactive exhibitions and AI avatars.
Today I work independently from Salzburg. My usual role sits between technology, design, content and the people who decide: knowing what's feasible, what it costs and how it gets built.
I prefer systems that work over presentations that impress.
